Global Hand Washing Day
Rotaractors organize and execute a variety of projects on the six areas of focus of Rotary, at most the focus on Literacy and Education, The environment, New Generations and Economic Empowerment is of primal focus which is changing the lives of our communities. Rotaract Club of Lewet Identified one of the areas with necessary intervention which was on Water and Sanitation in which the Club Launched its Signature Project – “Water is Life” commemorating Global Hand washing Day which was held on the 15th of October 2014. Under the support of its mother club which hosted the project the club partnered up with The Rotary Club of Lake Union, Seattle, USA and collaborated with Splash International, a Non Governmental Organization which works on providing clean water access to primary schools across the nation. RC Lewet took the Responsibility on creating the awareness on hygiene and sanitation along with splash in which it provides the installation of high water filtration systems to the schools while teaching on hand washing to prevent water borne diseases like Diarrhea and Typhoid which are now becoming the leading cause of death in children under the age of 9 years. It was a historic day as Lewet Launched the project on the global hand washing day at Tisaye Birhan Primary School. With great support from the Rotaract Club of Keroggie and The Rotaract Club of Mella, Members gave demonstrations on the importance of hand washing to prevent water borne diseases and gave out sanitary materials to the students to use at home. Splash team also gave demonstrations on the highly effective water flirtation systems installed in the schools. Effective hand washing can prevent the death of a child, and with this great mission Lewet will be engaged to change the lives of fellow community for years to come.
